There has been a lot of debate about the motives of counties and cities all across the state of Florida in reference to the surge in red-light cameras. Proponents are arguing that red-light runners are a huge safety hazard while the other side claims the traffic tickets issued by the cameras are nothing more than fund raisers for cash-strapped municipalities.
The website the Consumerist.com has a story today that seems to throw more fuel on the fire for those who believe the Florida traffic citations issued by those cameras are solely for financial gain. A woman and her husband challenged a ticket for running a red light by timing the interval between the yellow and red lights. They found the interval was almost one second less than county guidelines require. For conspiracy theorists, it may not seem like an oversight as Collier County is claiming.
