Stephen Horne is awaiting trial on felony charges of reckless driving with serious bodily injury stemming from a August 25 accident that cost a Tampa man both of his legs, part of his hand and nearly his life. Tampa police determined that Horne was texting while driving and that distraction caused him to run over 20-year-old Manny Mejia. That has lawmakers and police officers firmly standing behind proposed laws or bans to curb reckless driving caused by distractions like text messaging.
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Commission approximately 6,000 people were killed due to distracted driving. That is why one Lakeland senator is proposing a $30 traffic fine for Florida residents who violate a texting ban while driving. There are numerous bills currently being proposed in Florida to limit driver
