Suwannee County
Suwannee County, Florida is located in northwest Florida not far by the Georgia border. The estimated population was approaching 40,000 according to the most recent census. The county seat is located in Live Oak, and interestingly enough Suwannee County is a dry county. The only two municipalities are Branford and Live Oak. Other unincorporated areas include O’Brien, McAlpin, and Wellborn.
Law enforcement in Suwannee County, Florida issued over 4,000 moving violations last year. Most of the violations were for speeding. The Florida Highway Patrol issued most of the speeding citations followed by the Suwannee County Sheriffs Office. A large number of careless driving and red light citations were also issued last year. Careless driving tickets are usually issued by the Florida Highway Patrol following an accident investigation. Most of these crashes were rear-end collisions and will result in 4 points on your license if you just pay the citation. Remember, commercial drivers are NOT able to elect traffic school to keep the points off their license. There are Court options available to motorists and that is when our office comes into play.
In addition to civil infractions, Suwannee County law enforcement issued over 1,000 criminal citations last year. Most of those criminal tickets were issued for driving while license suspended in violation of Florida Statute 322.34 and no valid driver’s license in violation of Florida Statute 322.03. Given the fact the county is dry, it is not a surprise that there were only 141 DUI arrest last year by law enforcement countywide.
