Putnam County
Putnam County, Florida is located in northeast Florida south of Jacksonville. The estimated population is 75,000 and the county seat is Palatka, Florida. The courthouse is located at 410 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL 32177. Putnam County is part of Florida’s Seventh Judicial Circuit, which includes Flagler, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties. Putnam County has two county court Judges, Peter Miller and Elizabeth Morris. The two Judges spend their day listening to criminal misdemeanor and civil ;cases.
Aside from the Putnam County Sheriffs Office, other law enforcement agencies include Crescent City, Interlachen, Palatka, and Welaka. Law enforcement issued close to 8,000 moving violations last year. Of those, sixty-three percent of the tickets were issued for unlawful speed. Most of the speeding tickets were issued by the Sheriffs Office, although the Florida Highway Patrol isn’t too far behind with their numbers.
The police officers in Putnam County arrested and/or issued criminal citations to over 2,200 motorists. Not unlike in other Florida counites, a majority of the criminal citations were issued for driving while license suspended in violation of Florida statute 322.34 and no valid driver’s license in violation of Florida statute 322.03. In addition, law enforcement in Putnam county issued close to 200 DUI citations to motorists last year.
