Hernando County is located north of Tampa in a fast growing area of Florida. The primary law enforcement agency is the Hernando County Sheriffs Office who is assisted in their police duties by the Florida Highway Patrol, City of Brooksville, and City of Weekiwachee police departments. In total, law enforcement officers in the county issued close to 25,000 moving violations last year. Almost 17,000 of those citations were issued for unlawful speed.
